Meta Data Center In Mesa
The Mesa Data Center, the 18th data center overall and the 14th in the US for Meta, previously Facebook, was first announced in August 2021. This construction, which is estimated to reach an astounding 2.5 million square feet when finished, is powered entirely by renewable energy sources, making it one of the most energy and water efficient data centers in the world. A campus of five buildings makes up the greenfield construction known as the Mesa Data Center. This includes 2.5 million square feet of office and data center space. The plant is located at 3841 S. Ellsworth Rd.
A main goal of the Mesa plant in particular is being as sustainable as possible. The plant aims to use 100% renewable energy, with the usage of mainly solar power, and also aims to use 60% less water than a typical data center. Rainwater will be collected and eventually recycled by the data center, then in the end used for agricultural irrigation.
The data center is expected to spur economic growth close to the university on Elliot Road, just east of Ellsworth Road, according to Mesa Mayor John Giles. Without providing specifics, he asserted that suppliers and other companies will establish adjacent operations. The data center was attracted to Mesa by its business-friendly climate and shovel-ready infrastructure.
With their data centers, Meta promises to have a positive impact on local economies and infrastructure. The city of Mesa can anticipate the creation of tens of thousands of new jobs and a rise in labor income. New renewable energy projects, 21st century jobs, and construction trades are all supported. The building of this data center increased Meta's investment in Arizona by $1 billion, and as the project progresses, additional growth is anticipated. When finished, the complex will employ a variety of individuals, including technicians, engineers, security guards, and chefs.
Data center technicians, facility operations staff, various engineers, and information technology professionals are among the permanent positions that are eventually expected to be filled. Globally, Meta employs close to 72,000 people. The Menlo Park, California-based business generated $117.9 billion in revenue in 2021 and made a profit of $39.4 billion.
Additionally, Meta disclosed a $50,000 donation to Mesa College Promise, an initiative that helps Mesa citizens who graduate from nearby high schools enroll in Mesa Community College. This program offers internship opportunities, adviser counseling, and other support to help students pay for college.
Many local residents have asked why Mesa specifically was picked as the site for this development, and there have been a multitude of explanations given in response. Mesa has a lot of chances for renewable energy, government and developmental organization support, a solid skill pool, and infrastructure.
According to a report by the trade newspaper Data Centre Dynamics, a number of other businesses have data centers in east Mesa or are building them, including Apple, Google, EdgeCore, Cyrus One, Digital Realty, NTT/RagingWire, and Edgeconnex.
